BEIJING, Sept. 1 (CPNN) -- China's installed photovoltaic (PV) power capacity has overtaken coal-fired power for the first time, making it the country's largest power source by installed capacity, the National Energy Administration (NEA) announced on Tuesday.
As of the end of July this year, China’s installed PV power capacity reached 1.286 billion kilowatts, while coal power capacity stood at 1.285 billion kilowatts, according to the NEA.
From January to July, PV power generation totaled 802.4 billion kilowatt-hours, up 15.5 percent year on year, accounting for 13 percent of the country's total electricity consumption，1.7 percentage points higher than the full-year level of last year, the NEA said.
In recent years, China's installed PV capacity and PV power generation have maintained rapid growth, and they are playing an increasingly prominent role in ensuring power supply and developing the green energy transition, the NEA announced.
